My friend likes the woman and mentally she attracts him. However, his heart repels her. He asked me what to do? I said I do not trade short pleasure for lifelong suffering. For me, to feel my heart repel somebody could mean it is a permanent issue.

It is a dilemma in life wherein you find yourself in a situation urging you to take opposite ways.

Do you listen to the sound of the mind or the heart?

There shall be no problem if both the heart and mind are in alignment and pointing in the same direction. The problem starts when they are not.

Take another scenario. You have an employee who is talented and has many rare skills that you need. However, he is arrogant with his subordinates. Employees kept complaining about him. They threatened to submit all their resignation if this employee stayed. Now, your mind says no we need him. However, your heart says no he is pathetic. Get rid of him.

Is it a change of mind or a change of heart? What do you find?

  • Do you find it easier to change your mind or heart?
  • Do you go after what your heart tells you because you trust your feelings?
  • Do you consult with others but then only to justify your choice and validate it?
  • Do you ignore your feelings and go along with what your mind tells you?

It is not a matter of having two choices to select one. It is not that simple. The way we choose depends on many factors. One main factor is how much trust we have in our minds and hearts?

If you were in similar situations what would you decide and why?
